- âPostosuchus is NOT a dinosaur at all. It belongs to a completely separate reptile lineage called Pseudosuchia, which is actually more closely related to modern crocodiles than to T. rex.
- âA second species, Postosuchus alisonae, was named in 2015 from fossils found in North Carolina, showing the creature roamed across much of what is now the eastern United States.
- âPaleontologist Sankar Chatterjee formally named Postosuchus kirkpatricki in 1985, honoring Museum of Texas Tech University benefactor Richard Kirkpatrick in the species name.
- âPostosuchus had bony armor plates called osteoderms running down its back, which may have protected it from the bites of rivals during fights over territory or mates.
- âAt the end of the Triassic period around 201 million years ago, a massive extinction event wiped out Postosuchus and most of its rauisuchid relatives, clearing the way for dinosaurs to rise to dominance.
