- âIts legs were proportionally longer than those of most other sauropods its size, making paleontologists debate for years whether it was a surprise relative of Brachiosaurus.
- âThe Guettioua Formation where Atlasaurus was found is one of the most significant Middle Jurassic dinosaur sites in all of Africa, preserving creatures from a time when North Africa was a lush floodplain, not a desert.
- âAtlasaurus was formally named in 1999 by a team that included the renowned Canadian paleontologist Dale Russell, who is also famous for his research on dinosaurs from both Africa and North America.
- âAt 165 million years old, Atlasaurus lived about 100 million years before Tyrannosaurus rex, meaning T. rex is actually closer to us in time than it is to Atlasaurus.
